Jennifer Tzar

Jennifer Tzar was born in backwoods Minnesota. She grew up on a small, self-sustaining Scandinavian farm that was in her family for 5 generations. Upon graduating high school, she went to the University of Minnesota, pursuing a career in science. Curious about the world at large, she left MN at the age of 20, and headed to NYC.

Tzar’s life quickly took an unexpected turn. She was hired for modeling work. After a couple of years in the NY and European fashion industry, Tzar found it most fulfilling and intriguing to be on the other side of the camera. So, at the age of 23, Tzar became a wardrobe stylist, showing a natural talent in both fashion and aesthetics.

Through the rest of her 20’s, she worked as a stylist for major fashion magazines and celebrities such as Sean Young, Daryl Hannah, Ray Liotta, Willem Dafoe, Aretha Franklin, Bjork, David Bowie, Portishead, Interview Magazine, Vanity Fair, The Face Magazine, etc.

At the age of 30, her natural curiosity and drive again caused a major career shift, and she started taking her own pictures. Her career as a photographer took off almost instantly. Her first clients were Levi Strauss and Lancôme. She then branched off to shoot fashion publications such as Vogue Homme International, I-D Magazine, Men’s Vogue, Elle, Russian Vogue, etc. After a few years of fashion, her interests shifted to travel and photojournalism, and she began traveling extensively. Tzar experienced 55 countries and picked up work for magazines like Travel and Leisure Magazine and Conde Nast Traveler. She did numerous stories for Discover
Magazine...indulging in the worlds of science, underwater photography and archaeological digs. In 1999, she extensively covered the war and mass genocide in Kosovo, with journalist and publisher Bob Guccione Jr. This was during the time when NATO was bombing, and journalists were not allowed in country.

Eventually she moved into another genre alongside fashion and travel, she began to shoot record covers for major labels and celebrities. Tzar worked with stars such as Ozzy Osbourne, Bruce Springsteen, Sarah McLachlan, Snoop Dog, The Black Keys, Mary J. Blige, and many more. She also shot for music magazines RollingStone, Spin, Billboard, etc. Tzar has also directed over 30 music videos.

In 2014, she delved more into her natural business and production sensibilities. She designed and opened her first business, ÖR Gallery and Tavern, in Hudson, NY. ÖR was a successful bar, café and design studio. ÖR featured an in-house gallery, store, and workspace, that produced handmade leather accessories, a perfume and furniture produced with her design partner Adam Loomis.

After 5 years in gentrified Hudson, restless Tzar set off for Los Angeles to open her next entrepreneurial project, Oracle Tavern, a bar and venue space. She made it thru the pandemic, and Oracle exploded into action last year, becoming one of Los Angeles’ new hot spots featuring numerous local bands and cultural events.

This brings us to the year 2022. Tzar discovered yet another avenue. She now qualifies for a social equity cannabis license in NY state. Having a cannabis arrest on her record, being a woman and having success-fully run two LLC’s, Tzar is perfectly positioned to pursue this new and exploding business opportunity. She will open her first NYC boutique this fall, introducing her luxury cannabis brand, ‘Dagmar’.
